The Pretender Episode Guide
A trip down memory lane.
Episode Guide | Wild Child
For a few years we’d had a story notion about Jarod discovering a mummified boy in an archeological dig and discovering that his past was much like Jarod’s and all the emotional parallels therein. We never could get it to work right as a full-blown story, until we took a slight left turn with it, and discovered “Wild Child”.
We found as we broke this story (with writer Joel Metzger) the emotional core and heart that we’d hope to find in the mummy story was here to mine as well, that we could keep the story more present day and throw in some controversy to boot.
The key element (not to beat a dead horse) was when we hit upon the fact that our bad guy had actually discovered this little girl in the wilds years ago and instead of helping her, observed her for his science, just like — hey, the Centre and Jarod. Again, this story benefits from having a strong emotional motivation that hits our hero where he lives.
In the Centre story, Mr. Cox is discovered to have a liking to road kill. Fear not, no animals were harmed in the making of this episode. To achieve the proper look, our outstanding prop masters used a combination of sand-filled burlap sacks, red dye coloring and synthetic fur.
