The Pretender Episode Guide
A trip down memory lane.
Episode Guide | Cold Dick
An absolutely wonderful script by Carlos Coto, heralded the return of one of our favorite all time characters, Argyle. Played so brilliantly by Leland Orser, Argyle’s return was something we all waited anxiously for each season. Jarod and Argyle on screen was always an adventure and with the material this story provided, Argyle doing a pretend as a Vegas private dick to impress a beautiful dame he falls in love with at first sight only to find himself running for his life with Jarod his only hope of not being frozen to death by the bad guys because of it, the laughs never stopped.
When Leland and Michael T. were shooting it never really mattered what was on the script page, those guys just went on and on, and the whole crew was usually in stitches. And that was just when the camera’s were rolling, when they’re not Leland is such a riot, it’s damn near impossible to get anything done. Then there’s Ken Mars, who plays Argyle’s father, Benny, who is one of the finest comedians of all time. Add him to the equation and chaos is the order of the day. Get all three of these guys together and add another comic genius like John Polito and a show business icon like Wayne Newton and you have one of the great experiences ever on the set of ‘The Pretender’.
And that’s just the half of it, the Centre story was just as funny if not more so.
When Miss Parker and Broots find themselves in Vegas on a stakeout for Jarod it’s not just the strip that’s heating up. Miss Parker and Broots have a wild and sexy love affair – or at least it appears so. The truth is, it’s all a fantasy in Broots’ mind. They say the subconscious is the path to a man’s soul and if that’s true, then Broots must be quite the lover — but what the hell is Mr. Raines doing in there in a leopard skin Speedo?
Richard Marcus wearing a leopard skin Speedo is one of the most terrifying things we’ve ever seen in real life.
