Someone to Trust
Directed by: Fred Keller
Original Air Date: 11-17-98
Pretending to be an arsonist, Jarod gets burned by love and deceit, when he falls for the wife of the man he’s come to takedown, but after the man is murdered, it is Jarod who finds himself in the hot seat as it appears that he is the killer.
Someone to Trust
We liked the idea of Jarod going to take down a bad guy and before he could do it, someone else beats him to the punch. We also liked the idea of Jarod in a ‘Body Heat’-type noir-ish thriller where his well planned out and ‘documented’ pretend back story is turned around and used against him. We put them all together and came up with ‘SOMEONE TO TRUST’.
A sexy and dangerous thriller, crafted by Tommy Thompson, it is classic noir with a Pretender-ish twist. But equally as intriguing, is the deviousness we discover about Mr. Lyle in the Centre story, his predilection for Asian women and his dark secrets regarding them. It’s only the beginning of the revelations about Lyle but it is an ominous foreshadowing of who this character really is.
There was a reunion of sorts for us in this episode. Julia Campbell, who played Kristi Kincaid with deliciously devilish perfection, had stared in a pilot for us the year before Pretender was picked up. It was called ‘WILDE LIFE’ and she was as terrific in it, as she was in this episode. Also, Eric Pierpoint, the wonderful actor who played Sheriff Carver, was someone else we had had the privilege of working with earlier in our career. He stared as George Francisco in ‘ALIEN NATION’, a series that should still be on the air. Hollywood , like everywhere else, is a very small world.
