Mr. Lee

310 Mr Lee_05567-1This episode is a strong one on both the Jarod and Centre story sides.

As mentioned in the ‘UNFORGOTTEN’ write up, each year the studio and network wanted us to produce a Clip Show to save on production costs. And every year we’d reluctantly agree, then beat our heads against the wall trying to come up with a way to do that show without letting it feel like a Clip Show. We were successful with ‘UNFORGOTTEN’ and that made the job in Season Three even more difficult, as we were determined to top it. As we struggled in the writer’s room with the task at hand, we came upon a unique take; let’s revisit some of the people that Jarod had crossed paths with, flashing back to see how he touched their lives, and now seeing how their characters had changed because of their chance meeting with him. The idea of seeing not only victims he’d helped, and secondary characters whose lives he’d touched was great, but also the idea of revisiting bad guys he’d put away, was just too tempting to say no to. So Mark Dodson got the assignment and knocked out what turned out to be a really terrific episode.

310 Mr Lee_05703-1Mark Dodson and Steve Mitchell go back too many years to admit here. Best friends in high school and best men at each other’s weddings. Mark had become licensed both as a physical therapist, as well as, a lawyer, and while he’d always been Steve’s most ardent fan (and harshest critic) he’d never actually thought about writing. That is, until he came up with the idea for ‘BULLETPROOF’ in Season Two. He wrote the story, a story, by the way, no one on the inside had thought of, took a shot at the script and so impressed us, that in Season Three we brought him on staff. And we’re thrilled we did. In the third and forth seasons of ‘The Pretender’, Mark wrote an additional seven episodes, including “At the Hour of Our Death”, “Qallupilluit”, and “Corn Man A Comin’”.
