The Pretender Episode Guide
A trip down memory lane.

Not Even a Mouse
Whenever a series is in its early stages, like we were at this point, you are always searching, experimenting, digging, whatever you want to call it, striving to find those perfect elements, the right ingredients that go into making a successful episode. Beyond that, what are those elements that make one episode better, more cohesive more powerful than most of the others and even trickier, how can we keep using those particular elements, reinventing them and keeping them fresh.
This episode clearly has those elements; a great victim (a loner homeless man whose unselfishness was legendary), a villain with the worst possible abuse of power (violating the public’s trust), Jarod’s personal quest of discovering the identity of the dead runaway Jane Doe (mirroring his own lost identity), a gritty and very creepy takedown (literally her own medicine, not to mention a psychotically delicious turn by Michael T.), some of the best pretender investigative moments (cutting himself with the broken ornament, hanging on the overhead pipe till his hands calloused, intentionally getting hit by a car) and the continuing tragedy of Miss Parker and Jarod set against that most emotional of seasons, Christmas.
