A trip down memory lane.
Episode Guide | To Serve And Protect
To Serve And Protect
This was Tommy Thompson’s first full episode and it asked the dramatic question, why would a man who just found the family he’d been separated from his whole life, suddenly throw it all away? Jarod, desperate to find his family knew something was wrong with this picture, and goes in to figure it out, all the while risking his own freedom to hopefully find his own family. Jarod’s passionate emotional connection to the victim was always a key element to each episode and Tommy Thompson’s episodes always emphasized this fact.
The strengths of this episode are the emotional sessions with the missing persons group and Jarod imagining his mother talking about the son she’s lost. Very powerful. The runner with Jarod manipulating Miss Parker into the southern backwoods jail is very funny, especially the crude pig drawing on the cell wall and her priceless look of disgust toward it.
Little Known Fact:
Michael T. Weiss had to eat over thirty doughnuts during the course of the shooting day when Jarod “discovered doughnuts” for the first time.
