Jarod pretends to by a U.S. Marshal in order to save an informant who is on the run because his testimony could incriminate a drug family.
A torso made of Spam. You just don’t see that on network TV. And that is something we always strived for, sometimes more successfully than others – but always on our minds. It was important to us to always have Jarod’s process of delving into investigative beats be unique to his character. Having him build a torso out of Spam, (the poop for the episode) then stabbing it as a way to discover how the crime had gone down – not by one man stabbing another, but by the bad guy stabbing himself – was one of the more fascinating ‘Jarod processes’ we’d done to date.
This episode also served as a catch all for Centre lore, as so many threads in the back-story started to tighten in this episode. Young Jarod’s desire to become friends with another child subject; Young Kyle, Miss Parker enlisting Broots’ help in her search for information on the children in the ‘RESCUED’ file, her visit to one of the children from the file only to discover the child had died under suspicious circumstances two years prior; Sydney’s visit to his psychiatrist, where he reveals his fantasies of killing Mr. Raines, the fact that Sydney has a gun; and most importantly Miss Parker’s discovery of a baby bracelet with ‘SL-27’ etched inside.
