Bomb Squad
The only thing worse than being trapped in an elevator with a mime would to be trapped in an elevator with a bomb you knew was about to go off – especially if you were a serial bomber yourself. At least that was what we thought when we came up with Bomb Squad. Besides this being the episode that really started to introduce the audience to Angelo (not to mention being the first time we really got to start exploring one of the most fascinating characters on the show ourselves) we also let the audience get a glimpse into Jarod’s past. By guiding Rachel Newton, the recently blinded victim of the serial bomber, into simulation in her mind we got a sense of what Jarod did while performing simulations for the Centre. Both this technique and Angelo opened new veins for us to mine in following episodes and we had a blast (no pun intended) doing it.
The part of Rachel Newton was beautifully played by Jennifer Tighe, daughter of Kevin Tighe of EMERGENCY fame. We could never get dad to do the show, but all things considered, we think we ended us with the best Tighe in the bunch. Jennifer also graced us by reprising her role of Rachel Newton in an episode in season 3 titled “MR. LEE”.
Not only was Mr. Potato Head this shows discovery, but the original title of this episode was “Potato Head Blues.”
